Two day conference: Industrial Heritage

The two day conference was held on the 17th and 18th of June, 2011 at the Municipal Cultural Centre 'Panos Solomonides'. The event was organised by the Municipality of Limassol in conjunction with TICCIH GR under the auspices of the Minister of the Interior, Mr Neocles Silikiotis. 

The speakers and the discussions centred around our industrial heritage, in Cyprus, Greece and further afield, and its contribution to Architecture, the Economy and Social Identity. The speakers both from Greece and Cyprus from varied backrounds ranging from academics to architect practitioners and central and local government officials  . The two day conference closed with a speech delivered by Akis Charalambous on the Renovation of the old Couvas Installations to the Municipal Cultural Centre 'Panos Solomonides'

Two exhibitions were running concurrently mounted in the central lobby of the complex;

On the one hand a photographic exhibition of notable industrial buildings in the Limassol area from the Municipality Archives while on the other hand architectural student projects concerned with interventions and renovation/ reuse of industrial buildings.
