Crowne Plaza (formely Holiday Inn) entrance canopy and facelift completed

27th January 2011

As part of the re-branding of the Holiday Inn Hotel to the Crowne Plaza our Practice has been involved in all external modifications. Specifically, the bedroom balconies on the northern facade have been sacrificed so that the rooms could be enlarged and a hybrid window framing system that includes HPL panels in three colours randomly across the facade, provided an opportunity to upgrade the facade aesthetically and improve the acoustic and thermal insulation to the rooms. The canopy over the entrance has been engineered to accommodate the restrictions of height and existing levels and has a 4m cantilever while only supported by two columns that spread with 'branches' to support it. On the southern facade another canopy provides shading to the main lounge areas along the pool as well as solar shading to the common areas inside.
